INTERNATIONAL CONTACT DERMATITIS
RESEARCH GROUP (ICDRG)

 

The International Contact Dermatitis Research Group (ICDRG) is a group of dermatologists from different countries around the world, who are working jointly in the field of Environmental Dermatology and Cutaneous Allergy.

It has been founded in 1967. The founder members were: H.J. Bandmann, C.D. Calnan, E. Cronin, S. Fregert, N. Hjorth, B. Magnusson, H.I. Maibach, K.E. Malten, C. Meneghini, V. Pirilä and D.S. Wilkinson.

The current members of the group are: S.I. Ale (Montevideo, Uruguay), P.Elsner (Jena, Germany), S. Freeman (Darlinghurst, Australia), C.L. Goh (Singapore), M. Hannuksela (Lapeenranta, Finland), R. Hayakawa (Nagoya, Japan), L. Kanerva (Helsinki, Finland), J.-M. Lachapelle (Brussels, Belgium), H.I. Maibach (San Francisco, USA), J.E. Wahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden)

The current Group’s Chairman is Jean-Marie Lachapelle, M.D., PhD., and the Secretary is Ritsuko Hayakawa, M.D., PhD.
 

Aims and activities of the group:

To promote interest of dermatologists around the world for allergic and environmental skin problems

 To standardize at an international level the patch testing procedures

 To organize International Contact Dermatitis Symposia

 To plan cooperative research among different countries and disseminate the corresponding results

 To encourage young researchers in the field of environmental dermatology
 

International Symposia on Contact Dermatitis

An International Symposium is organized on a regular basis every second year

Niels Hjorth at Gentofte, Denmark, organized the First International Symposium on Contact Dermatitis in October 1974

Howard I. Maibach, was the Chairman of the preceding ISCD at San Francisco, USA in October 1999; and the next ISCD will be held in Seoul (Korea), September 19-21, 2003 chaired by H.C.Eun.
 

Niels Hjorth Prize.

This prize, of a total amount of 2,000 Sterling Pounds, is awarded every second year, during the Symposium.

Niels Hjorth was Professor of Dermatology at Copenhagen University, Denmark. He was one of the founders of the ICDRG and acted as Chairman for many years.

The prize is intended to promote basic and/or clinical research among young researchers in the field of Environmental Dermatology.

Call for the Niels Hjorth Prize

The International Contact Dermatitis Research Group encourages research by endowing a Niels Hjorth Prize (2000 Sterling Pounds).

Original, unpublished papers are invited, and a committee will then select the winner.

The winning entry will be given as a paper at the present 13th International Symposium on Contact Dermatitis in November 2001.

The deadline for submission of papers for the prize will be June 15th, 2001.

LATIN AMERICAN CONTACT DERMATITIS
RESEARCH GROUP (DERMOSUR)

The Latin-American Contact Dermatitis Research Group (DERMOSUR) was founded in Santiago de Chile in May, 1992.

The first President was Carlos Vera Mora (†) from Chile, Secretary General was Pedro Lobos from Chile and the Honorary President was Osvaldo Mangano from Argentina.

The Group gathers once a year during the Annual Meeting of Latin-American Dermatologists (RADLA) to share experiences and coordinate cooperative research and educational activities.

The current members of the group are: Alice O. A. Alchorne (Brazil) S.I. Ale (Uruguay), Salim Amed Ali (Brazil), Alicia Cannavó (Argentina), Luis Conde-Salazar (Spain), Carlos Consigli (h) (Argentina), Ermelinda P. de Bordón (Paraguay), Ida Duarte (Brazil), Newton Guimaraes (Brazil), Elena Kvitko (Argentina), Gonzalo Leyton (Chile), Pedro Lobos (Chile), Osvaldo Mangano (Argentina), Enrique Mullins (Chile), Probo Pereira (Uruguay), Luis Valda (Bolivia), Luis Valdivia (Perú),Silvia Wainer (Argentina)

The current Group’s Chairman is Alice O. A. Alchorne, from Brazil and the Secretary is Iris Ale from Uruguay.
 

Aims and activities of the group:

To study the epidemiology of environmental and allergic skin problems in Latin-América and the main environmental allergens.

To perform collaborative research among the different participant countries and disseminate the corresponding results through the Group’s Official Publication, the Journal “Dermosur”.

To promote interest of Latin- American dermatologists for allergic and environmental skin problems and encourage young researchers in the field of environmental dermatology.
